The Newton Block or Corner Drug Store built in 1897 by the P. M. Newton estate, to carry out his plans for a large business block to fill the long-vacant “Seeley” lot on the corner of Lake and North Main Streets, the south part of the building housed a drug store from 1897 until about 1977, long known as “The Corner Drug Store.”

Druggist R. W. Shaul owned the building from 1900 until it was purchased by Arthur H. Wart in 1944. Mr. Wart, who was also Town Historian from 1974 to 1991, sold the building in the late 1970’s. It was part of the Sandy Creek Historic District accepted to the National Register of Historic Places in 1988, but was razed in 1990.
