August 1920 Sandy Creek Fair

The Oswego County Fair (“Old Sandy”) is 159 years old and begins on Wednesday, August 10 and runs through Sunday, August 14th. In the spring of 1858, several men decided to hold a fair in Sandy Creek and land donated by Oren R. Earl was used. Earl was the first president of the fair and served as an officer on and off for twenty years. After his death in 1903, the fair gained clear title to the land. In the beginning the fair was called the “Annual Fair of the Sandy Creek, Richland, Orwell and Boylston Agricultural Society.” Then in 1877 it grew to include the towns of Sandy Creek, Richland, Orwell, Boylston, Ellisburg, Lorraine, Redfield, Albion, Williamstown and Parish.

Oswego County is celebrating 200 years and all local historians will be present at the Heritage Building showcasing their town and village histories. Please stop by. Charlene Cole
