The Blount Lumber Company of Lacona was one of the oldest companies in this part of the state.

It was established in 1894 by George R. Blount and his brother Andy.

At that time the sawmills were in the woods and lumber was shipped to Lacona by wagon and sleigh to be graded and shipped to buyers by rail. For many years the company specialized in manufacturing hardwood flooring.

The employees totaled about 200 from around northern Oswego County.

This company closed after almost 100 years and a Pomeroy Foundation grant was written for a historic marker to be placed on the DeMott Street site.

The date is June 30, 2018 at 10am with a reception to follow at the remodeled Lacona Depot on Park Street.
