Tryon attended Sandy Creek Central School, the son of Elvin R. Sr. and Millie Scott Tryon and joined the Air Force, serving in Vietnam. He received the Commendation Medal and Citation for his outstanding service in Vietnam. The citation reads…..Airman First Class Elvin R. Tryon Jr., distinguished himself by meritorious service as a Security Police Sentry and Security Alert Team Member, 366th Security Police Squadron, DaNang Air Base, Republic of Vietnam, from 8 March 1969 to 6 March 1970. While serving under combat conditions, Airman Tryon, by his professional knowledge and competence, contributed immeasurably to the effectiveness of his unit. His untiring vigilance and outstanding performance during periods of high threat and overt hostile activity were an invaluable deterrent to adverse forces poised against DaNang Air Base. The distinctive accomplishments of Airman Tryon reflect credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
