The weekend of June 6/7th local historians re-enacted the 200th anniversary of the “Great Cable carry” during the War of 1812.

After a brief ceremony held to honor the American militia, British soldiers and Oneida Indians who fought at the Battle of Big Sandy, the horse drawn cart began the journey overland from the DEC parking lot off Rt. 3, Ellisburg to Sackets Harbor.

The horse drawn wagon led the cable carriers made up of boy scouts, parents, historians and interested people along the route originally taken in 1814. This re-enactment showcased local involvement by farmers and militia during the War of 1812 and the “great” cable carry to arm the frigate Superior at Sackets Harbor.
