Merchants - Personality Contest – 50 Beautiful Girls Competing to be Miss Sandy Creek-Lacona at the High School Auditorium, Wednesday July 6, 1938 representing progressive business men from Sandy Creek and Lacona, wearing their banner. Added attractions included entertainers from several towns; fifteen local children in beautiful, colored costumes; tap dancing; musical numbers; magic; accordion; violin mimicry; The Talking Fiddle; beauty; flowers and youth progress. A Major “Crows” real amateur hour. The director will be Major “Bowes” and will act as Master of Ceremonies. Doors open at 7 P.M. – Show starts at 8 P.M. – Admission : Adults, 25 cents – First Six Grades, 10 cents.

Sandy Creek News: Norma Thacker is Personality Contest Winner:

About 250 attended the Sandy Creek Firemen’s personality contest in the high school auditorium last Wednesday night when Miss Norma Thacker, Lacona, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alfred J. Thacker, Lacona was awarded a cup as winner of the contest. Miss Mildred Reid, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William B. Reid of Lacona, placed second, while third place went to Miss Darcy Jones daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Jones of this village. Miss Thacker, who won the title “Miss Sandy Creek-Lacona” will have the opportunity to represent the twin villages in the Northern New York contest to be held in Watertown this fall.

The program included tap dance numbers by the Misses Joyce Joyner, Lacona; Barbara Prescott, Sandy Creek; Joyce Holmes, Pulaski; and a trio from Pulaski. Forty young ladies of the two villages represented local merchants in the contest with selections being made by three outside judges. In the tiny tots division prizes were awarded to Myrtle Sedner, Beverly Weston and Una Simpson.
