Photo: This photo from the archives is dated 1926 and is said to be the Victory Chain Store.

In a recent column I touched on the Foederer building on South Main Street and this column will further the history of that building which today is the bottle and can return.

Pictured is Melvin Stevenson, Avis Branche and Perry Stevenson, father of Melvin. Avis married Maurice Branche and is sister of James and Leon Ridgeway and Olive Ridgeway Hammond.

This building on South Main Street Sandy Creek was the Victory Chain Store in 1926. The Red and White Grocery followed owned by Durl and Olive Clement and Paul Fuller. It was sold to Claire and Don Turo and continued to be a grocery store when Jim and Kathy Foederer owned it. The building was vacant for awhile until Uncle Nino’s opened the restaurant that he operated for five years when he moved the business to Mannsville, then Fulton and today lives out of state near his children.
